VOLUNTEER SERVICES
A variety of opportunities are available to persons willing to give of their time. Volunteers are need to deliver meals, make visits to individuals in the community and at facilities, assist at senior center activity centers with the art and craft classes, etc. You could volunteer one of the following programs:
Ombudsman Program:
Ombudsmen are community neighbors who are specially trained to answer and resolve the problems that people experience in the long term care system.
Volunteer Ombudsmen complement the Pennsylvania Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program through their local Agency on Aging.
Friendly Visitor Program:
The Friendly Visitor Program is a service offered to individuals who may be emotionally or physically impaired. It is especially devoted to helping those who have little or no contact with others in the community.
Home Delivered Meals Program:
Home Delivered Meal Volunteers deliver meals to individuals who are not able to prepare a meal or attend a senior center.
Rent-A-Kid Program:
Rent-A-Kid is a referral service for teenagers who wish to do work for Senior Citizens. When the Agency gets a request from a senior citizen to find a Rent-A-Kid, the coordinator tries to "match" a teenager in the program who lives near the job. The senior citizen then calls the teenager and makes the final arrangements which include: What he/she needs done, when it is to be done, if the teenager wants the job, and the rate of pay.
