--Research
The Grants Management Department staff monitors grant notices, on-line and in an array of written publications, to remain informed of possible grant opportunities. Ongoing contact with state and federal agencies ensures up-to-date information about grant programs and open announcements. Notices of grant opportunities are sent via e-mail directly to appropriate agencies.
--Screening
The Grants Management Department screens the grant criteria to be sure the grant is a good fit with the proposed program. The Grants Management Department assists with developing a realistic time-line and explains the application, approval, evaluation and award processes, particularly if County government is a partner.
--Development
As you develop your application, the Grants Management Department can continue as an active partner. Attending strategy sessions, reviewing drafts and researching background information are all ways the Grants Management Department is able to help you develop your proposal.
--Editing
Given the complexity of many grants, grant seekers often take advantage of the department's editing services. The grants staff can thoroughly review the application and address the following areas:
-Content: Have all sections of the application been adequately addressed? Does the narrative address the application requirements? Does the narrative use proper grammar and spelling?
-Format: Is the application in the proper order and does it include all attachments?
-Costs: Is the budget accurate? Are all appropriate costs included? Is the budget narrative understandable? If required, are adequate matching funds identified?
-Evaluation: Are outcome measures required? Are the outcomes reasonable, measurable and appropriate for the program?
-Approval: If appropriate, have all County agencies signed the application including the attorney, the budget analyst and the commissioners or their designee?
-Sustainability: Have you addressed sustaining your program should grant funds decrease or end? Do you understand the legal requirements of the grant?
--Management
Once the grant is awarded, the Grants Management Department will work with the Fiscal Department and the awarded County agency to set up the grant in the County's Financial Management System. The Grants Management Department is also available to help agencies with progress reports, including data collection and analyses, and to answer questions about managing grant funds.
