Juvenile Probation Alternative Classroom
(PACES)

Program Description

On February 22, 2000, the Juvenile Probation Department opened its doors to educate expelled, suspended, and transition students (transition students are those students returning from a residential program.) These students are under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court and supervised by Juvenile Probation. The school operates from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday during the academic school year. The classroom is supervised by a School-Based Probation Officer, in conjunction with a special education instructor from the Lincoln Intermediate Unit (LIU) #12.

Expelled and transition students participate in a wide range of educational experiences as well as traditional classroom programming. The curriculum for each student is based on personal need and academic level. Some students complete the Jefferson County Curriculum, while others receive books and assignmnets from their home school. The LIU instructor works closely with the school districts to ensure the academic requirements for each student are met. Out-of-school suspension students follow a stricter daily schedule consisting of completing academics from their home school, attending therapeutic groups, and completing community service.
